Spencer County Public Library in Taylorsville, KY

Taylorsville, Kentucky

The 16,100 square feet Spencer County Public Library in Taylorsville, Kentucky, was built on the site of the old library. Part of the old library was demolished and part was left standing with the new library built around and above it. Incorporating part of an old building into a much larger new one requires a tremendous amount of planning and coordination to make sure all the new building components (structural steel, trusses, etc.) tie together with the existing building in just the right way. And Woodbine made sure that is just what happened. The finished result is a beautiful new library for the City of Taylorsville which serves a vital community function not just as a place to check out books but as a place to use computers, have meetings, play games, check out movies, participate in various programs and provide educational opportunities for both children and adults. According to the Library Director, since its opening in January of 2017 attendance at the library has doubled from that of the old library. Woodbine is proud to have helped bring about this beautiful new community resource to the people of Taylorsville and Spencer County.
