Carnegie Library in Jeffersonville, IN

Jeffersonville, IN

Woodbine Construction played a major part in the restoration of the historic Carnegie Library that was originally built in 1903 and is located in Jeffersonville, Indiana. The library is in the Old Jeffersonville National Register District. The restoration included hand digging out the basement and removing the dirt in buckets. Each window was totally restored keeping the original glass. A vacuum sealed room, where all the archives are stored, was built with specialized temperature controls for heat and, air and humidity with specialized fire suppression. For ease of access, an elevator was added in the back of the building. The Neo-classical style building was designed by Jeffersonville native and architect Arthur Loomis with beautiful exterior limestone that was refurbished along with the monument that is located at the front of the existing property. The building has recently been rededicated to the Remnant Trust collection of rare books and documents.
